More exciting Northeast Kansas community re-development news!
Our team at Architect One is honored to share updates on "Legacy Square", a destination location in the heart of downtown Ottawa, Kansas. The new downtown event pavilion is designed to INSPIRE retail, recreation, and community pride. Ottawa has created a public-private partnership called to help increase pride in the city and create a stronger sense of community.
To achieve such a beautiful vision you have to LISTEN! And that’s exactly what we did! Starting back in January of 2017, Architect One has hosted numerous chamber-organized charettes to gather input from hundreds of community members and business leaders. The idea of a downtown river plaza (now named Legacy Square) came from those meetings. The square features an area to host a farmers market, a event pavilion for entertainment and festivals, art, and a children's park.
Legacy Square is a public-private partnership with city support coming in the way of infrastructure. Private sector dollars are being raised to complete the event pavilion and park enhancements. Since January of 2018, nearly $4 million, via cash and in-kind gifts, has now been raised in private money to fund the park!
Legacy Square will be the perfect place to meet up and get downtown or hop on your bike and get out of town! The project’s downtown location affords direct access Main Street as well as access to the river and is at the intersection of two major bike trails. During the announcement of Legacy Square, Governor Jeff Colyer signed legislation making the Flint Hills Nature Trail a part of the state park system!
Congratulations to Onward Ottawa for your vision and your work to turn an underutilized area of the community into a beautiful gathering space that will be a source of pride for generations! We are beyond grateful to be part of such an innovative and rewarding project.
LISTEN. DESIGN. INSPIRE.
